Tips to Maintaining your Boots

General Hygiene: To ensure your footwear remains in top condition, keep footwear clean, wash and thoroughly dry your feet, and change socks daily.

Care: ✔ Clean work boots and safety footwear regularly. ✔ Polish fullgrain leather footwear and treat with leather preservative. ✔ Brush suede and Nubuck leathers, and treat with waterproofer. ✔ Clean footwear soles by brushing and washing to remove contaminants. ✔ Footwear should not be cleaned with solvents and should not be force dried e.g. heater, oven or hair dryer. ✔ Store work boots and safety footwear in a cool, dry place away from direct sunlight.

Water Damage: Remove excess water with dry cloth. Allow to dry in a well-ventilated area away from direct heat/sunlight.

Maintenance: Examine footwear for external damage prior to and after each use. In the case of cracks, breaks in leather, exposed toecaps or other similar damage, replace footwear.

Note: Avoid any unauthorised footwear alterations, e.g. mechanical stretching, orthopaedic inserts or adding vent holes. Such alterations may:

a) Take the footwear out of compliance with the relevant standard. b) Void any approval or certification of the footwear. c) Reduce the effectiveness of the footwear.

IF YOU DON’T USE YOUR BOOTS OFTEN: Do not store in cupboard or dark/humid conditions. When you are not wearing your Steel Blues (if this happens), please: ✔ Store your boots in a cool dry spot. ✔ If your boots are stored away for extended periods, how about showing them some love by taking them for a walk twice a month to keep them fit and healthy?

If boots are stored in dark/humid conditions for a prolonged period, the sole compound can deteriorate (process called hydrolysis). It is better to wear your boots regularly.
